Spot welding defect FTA (Fault tree analysis). Report

              SPOT WELDING DEFECT FTA

We all mechanical/automobiles/ production engineers must be aware of welding processes. The welding process is a process of joining two metal parts due to fusion created at their joining area because of high current/voltage applied at electrode wire. If we want proper, aesthetic, and functional wise well welding then it needs voltage-current ration in define and set rate. Electrode force should be as per define and set amount. Air pressure should also be in a defined quantity. Cooling water used is also properly flowed over the cycle in the system. An operator who is operating a gun for welding should also properly trained about gun angles, tip filing, etc...
If everything goes on as per set and define amount then our welding quality must have to be ok. if it's not then we have to face some defect generation. We will see all spot welding defects and their reasons for generation and what should we do to avoid its generation.

Types of defects observed during spot weld

  1. Spot weak
  2. Spot on edge
  3. Spot deep
  4. Spot burnt
  5. Spot Burr.
  6. Spot dent
  7. Spot pitch not ok & spot pinhole.
